Beginning in Pokhara, this trek encircles Dhaulagiri Himal, which comprises of Dhaulagiri I to IV and offers simple lifestyle and scenery of Nepal from cultivated fields to mountain villages scattered along Myagdi Khola. 

The trail starts from Beni after an hour long drive from Pokhara along the banks of Myagdi River, passing through interesting villages of Babichor, Darbang and Sibang. The weather condition could play a definitive role in determining the successful completion through the arduous long saddle between French Pass and Thapa Pass. The descending trail passes through the village of Yak Kharka and Marpha, where vegetation changes from alpine to subtropical. We finally reach Jomsom for a flight back to Pokhara.

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,300m/4264 ft.

Upon arrival at the international airport in Kathmandu (1300M) you will be received by our representative at the arrival gate and will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02Kathmandu, Patan sightseeing and trekking preparation in Kathmandu (1,300m)

The second morning after your breakfast, we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual places in Kathmandu valley. The tour covers UNESCO World Heritage Sites including historical Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath (Buddhist Shrine, also called monkey temple), Boudhanath (the Largest Stupa in the World), and Pashupatinath (Hindu’s holiest pilgrimage site).
Patan, is one of the major cities of Nepal and is best known for its rich cultural heritage, in particular its tradition of arts and crafts. After heritage sightseeing, you will meet your trekking guide for briefing to help for final preparation of the trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (823m.2, 700 ft.): 5-6 hrs.

Early in the morning we leave for Pokhara by tourist bus, enjoying beautiful Nepali countryside along the way. Sightseeing around the city and Lakeside is a bonus here. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 04Drive from Kathmandu to Beni (850m): 8 hrs

We take a public bus to Beni which is an 8 hours’ drive from Kathmandu. Beni is the district headquarters. A police check post here examines our trekking permits. The town is at the confluence of the Myandi Khola and Kali Gandaki.

Day 05Trek to Babiachor (950m): 5 hrs.

Leaving Beni and Kali Gandaki the trek heads west along the north bank of the Myagdi Khola through Beni, Mangalghat to Singa and Tatopani. Crossing the bridge beyond the village to the south bank of the river, the trail makes a little half loop before crossing another bridge, near the village of Simalchour, back to the north back from where it continues to the village to Babichor. Overnight stay at Babichor.

Day 06Trek to Dharapani (1,400m): 6 hrs

The valley widens and terraced hills develop on both sides of the river. The trail is fairly level and you pass the village of Shahashradhara, Crossing the Duk Khola and walk through fields will take us to Ratorunga. From here the valley narrows again and terraces disappear on either side of the river. Continue to the Village of Dharapani where we stay overnight.

Day 07Trek to Muri (1,850m): 5 hrs

The trail starts climbing in the beginning of the day. Again the trail climbs steeply to the village of Muri. Continue our trek to Sibang and Mattim. From here we continue up an incline to the snout of ridge, descend to the Gatti Khola and reach Phalai Gaon (1,810m). Overnight stay at Muri.

Day 08Trek to Boghara (2,080m): 6 hrs

At the start today we descend a little, cross a stream and continue through terraced fields before climbing a ridge to reach the pass from where you can see Mt. Ghustung South (6,465m). Descend to the Myagdi Khola and trek along its west bank to the village of Naura from where we will climb a little before traversing a grassy hill and climbing a steep slope with switch-backs, then descend through a forest and terraced fields to Boghara. Ovenight stay at Boghara.

Day 09Trek to Dobang (2,520m): 5 hrs.

The trail first descends through terraced fields to a small ridge, then through a forest to Jyardan which is the most remote permanent settlement in this part of Nepal. A high winding path crosses a rocky area which descends before climbing again to Lipshe, where there is one single hut. The trail continues through a forest to Lapche Kharka and then climbs to the level area at Dobang. Overnight stay at Dobang.

Day 10Trek to Choraban Khola (3,110m): 5 hrs

The trail ascends with forest. Soon the west face of Dhaulagiri I becomes visible through breaks in the trees. Descend to the Myagdi Khola and cross via wooden bridge to the east bank, continue to Chartare. Passing through forests again, we cut across a rocky area and cross a stream to Choriban Khola. Overnight stay at Choriban Khola.

Day 11Trek to Italian Base Camp (3,660m): 7 hrs

The trail enters the Chhonbarban glacier from the right. Tukche peak (6,837m) comes to sight; at the far end, while the impressive north flank of Dhaulagiri I (8,167) dominates the skyline to our right. After a short while, we will reach Italian Base Camp (3,660m) which is also the site of our camp for the night.

Day 12Acclimatization and rest day

We will spend a day acclimatizing to the thinning of the air. It is recommended that your body acclimatizes to the high altitude and be adjusted for higher altitude in the days to follow.

Day 13Trek to Glacier Camp (4,210m): 6 hrs

We set up our journey early in the morning when the weather is expected to be clear. This trail is prone to stone fall, which passes through a narrow gorge. Today we stay overnight near the glacier in a tented camp.

Day 14Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,740m): 7 hrs.

This is the day we were looking for. From here you can look up at the impressive north face of Dhaulagiri I (8,167m) dominating the skyline. To the west are peaks of Dhaulagiri II, Dhaulagiri III and Dhaulagiri V. In front of you is the icefall that descends from the north-east col. Overnight stay in a tented camp.

Day 15Another acclimatization day

Yet another acclimatization day is required here.

Day 16Cross the French Pass (5,360m) and trek to the Hidden valley (5,200m): 6 hrs

First we climb two terraced hills. Climb another gentle slope to the French Pass. A great vista opens up from the French pass and we will be able to see Mukut Himal, Tashi Kang, and Sita Chuchura, all of which surround the hidden valley. To the south is Tukuche Peak, and beyond is the massive peak of Dhaulagiri I. From the French pass,we continue along the right edge of the Hidden valley losing a little altitude to the Thapa Pass between Tukuche Peak and Thapa Peak. Descending from the Thapa Pass we will make it to the camp at 5,200m for overnight stay.

Day 17Cross Dhampus pass (5,200m) and trek to Yak Kharka (3,680m): 6 hrs

Descend from the Hidden valley to the Dhampus Pass and continue to Yak Kharka. There is a perfect camp site to enjoy the surroundings in the evening.

Day 18Trek to Jomsom (2,710m): 5 hrs

Continue on to the village of Marpha, on the west bank of Kali Gandaki river. Marpha is home to many apple orchards as well as various food products made from fruit. Do not forget to taste the local Apple Brandy, a specialty from the region that you may be lucky enough to taste en route. Continue north, up the river valley to the town of Jomsom. Overnight stay in Jomsom.

Day 19Fly to Pokhara

We take a spectacular early morning flight along the Kali Gandaki gorge to Pokhara. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day 20Pokhara city tour

In the morning we go sightseeing around Pokhara valley. You are free in Pokhara, also called magic land of Nepal, to explore various interesting places like Fewa lake overlooking the region of Annapurna Areas, David falls, Mahendra Cave and some temples. After lunch you are free to shop for souvenirs or rest. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day 21Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,300m) or trip extensions by adding optional activities.

You have the option today to extend your program. There are many fun and exciting adventures, like paragliding, white water rafting and a wildlife safari in Chitwan National park. If you choice to return to Kathmandu the drive passes through the picturesque countryside, we will stop for breakfast and lunch. It takes 7 hours to return to Kathmandu. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 22Kathmandu departure

Drive to airport to board for onward journey flight.
