Rara Lake trekking offers remote wilderness of western Nepal offers a superb experience of nature. Rara Lake is Nepal’s largest lake which is situated at an elevation of 3,062 meter. Beginning the trek from Jumla, the trail passes through green countryside which provides unusual glimpses of culture and scenery quite different from elsewhere in Nepal. The trek eventually culminates to the Rara National Park. The entire route is ‘off the beaten track’ which involves the crossing of Ghurchi Langa pass at 3,450m on the way to Rara Lake and a few ridges at around 3,000m when hiking on the way back.

Upon arrival at the international airport in Kathmandu (1300M) you will be received by our representative at the arrival gate and will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.

The second morning after your breakfast, we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual places in Kathmandu valley. The tour covers UNESCO World Heritage Sites including historical Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath (Buddhist Shrine, also called monkey temple), Boudhanath (the Largest Stupa in the World), and Pashupatinath (Hindu’s holiest pilgrimage site).
Patan, is one of the major cities of Nepal and is best known for its rich cultural heritage, in particular its tradition of arts and crafts. After heritage sightseeing, you will meet your trekking guide for briefing to help for final preparation of the trek. Overnight at hotel.

As per the flight schedule for Nepalgunj you will be transferred to the domestic airport in Kathmandu. It is a-one and half hour scenic flight to Nepalgunj. At Nepalgunj we will have time in the late afternoon to have a look around the town which is situated on the southern part of Nepal bordering India. Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.

We take an early morning flight to Jumla which will fly over the Himalayan foothills, with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks to the north. On arriving at Jumla, our trekking staff will receive you, who have walked all the way from Nepalgunj with the camping gear and food supply. Jumla is the administrative headquarter of the entire Karnali zone and Jumla district.

We commence our trek in the morning, following the north bank of the Tila Khola, passing through fields and pine forests. The trek will ascend up the Padmara valley. Our trail keeps following the river until we arrive at the small village of Uthugaon, where we have a campsite close to the school on the opposite side of the river. Overnight stay at Uthugaon.

Our trek today will be through the narrow canyon to the village of Padmara. The trail climbs to the Khali Lagna pass at 3,550m through a deep forest of pines and firs. Shortly after this pass two paths come together and the trail then descends gently through mixed forest of spruces, birches and rhododendrons ultimately arriving at our campsite at Danphe Lagna. Overnight stay at Danphe Lagna.

The trek today descends steep passing through fir, birch and walnut and bamboo forests. After crossing a bridge we follow the river downstream before starting a serious climb. Here is a huge overhanging rock which is the source of Silagit, a mineral which is believed to have healing properties. Our steep climb continues for a while and then leaves out before Bhara village. We then descend to the Chauro Khola village of Cahutha. Overnight stay at Cahutha.

We trek uphill to Bulbule, the Rara National Park entrance station which is situated at an altitude of 3,130 meters. Our path continues climbing gently to Ghurchi Lagna pass (3,450m) which is covered with Chortens (round stone Buddhist monuments) and prayer flags. From the pass the trail descends through spruce forests. Tonight we camp at the small settlement of Dhotu village.

Starting in the morning, we traverse a steep north-facing slope from Dhotu and cross a series of fields down to a small stream. We now climb up to the Thakuri village of Jhyari. We again climb steadily up through cedar forest to a huge meadow. We will follow the trail along the northern side of the Rara Lake, where the park headquarters and the camping ground are situated, for us to spend night.

Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal. It is almost 13 km around the lake. Thus, a day devoted to walk around is well spent. Rara was designated a national park in 1975. This region offers remoteness and wilderness experience unlike any other region of Nepal. The Rara Lake is 180-meter deep.

This day our trail will follow the Khatyar Khola. We will keep following this river mildly descending before we climb out following a small trail surrounded by pine, spruce and rhododendron forests. The trail will drop into the Ghatta valley heading towards the small settlement of Gorushigha. Overnight stay at Gorushingha.

Our route keeps heading down the Ghatta valley from Gorusingha, following the Sinja Khola downwards to Sinja. From the 12th to 14th century, Sinja was the capital of the Malla dynasty that ruled western Nepal before Prithvi Narayan Shah unified this nation. The ruins of the old palace can be seen across the river. Overnight stay at Sinja.

In the beginning, we cross Sinja Khola and follow several ups and downs on the way. Most of the trek is through forest of pine, birch and oak and fields of barley and corn. The trail makes a steep climb to Jaljala Chaur, a gigantic meadow where horses are see grazing. Overnight stay at Jaljala Chaur.

We keep climbing through forests to yet another meadow, just below the ridge at 3,510m, then a pleasant descend to Jumla. Overnight stay in Jumla.

We take an early morning 30 minute sweeping wonderful flight to Nepalgunj, over the Himalayan foothills, overlooking stunning views of the snow-capped peaks. On arrival at Nepalgunj depending upon the connecting flight schedule to Kathmandu, we can have time in the afternoon for refreshment in the comfort of a hotel in Nepalgunj. We then connect with flight back to Kathmandu and transferred to the hotel. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
