Among many tourist areas, Dolpa is one of the most, sought after and isolated region of Nepal. Dolpa was opened for trekking in 1989. Containing unspoiled beauty and unforgettable nomadic people with endless cultures, Dolpa is located in the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Dolpa area is physically demanding to visit due to its high passes but turns meaningful with its mysterious cultures, mountains, lakes and scenic views. Heavenly dreams, paradise of natural faces are the matters to trek here.
The Upper Dolpa is restricted for trekking and special permit is mandatory to trek this area. For this trek, we can fly from Kathmandu via Nepalgunj to Jumla/Dunai or transfer by road, which is ten hours’ drive from Kathmandu to Baglung, and trek through Dhorpatan and Dolpa.
Dolpa trekking is difficult to obtain foods. Therefore, accommodation, transportation, clothing and other preparations are to be made for the trek in this region. The rewards of this difficult trek are unbound varieties of mountains, ancient Buddhism and Tibetan cultures that are not easy to delete from one’s memory.

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,300m/4264 ft.

Upon arrival at the international airport in Kathmandu (1300M) you will be received by our representative at the arrival gate and will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02Kathmandu, Patan sightseeing and trekking preparation in Kathmandu (1,300m)

The second morning after your breakfast, we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual places in Kathmandu valley. The tour covers UNESCO World Heritage Sites including historical Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath (Buddhist Shrine, also called monkey temple), Boudhanath (the Largest Stupa in the World), and Pashupatinath (Hindu’s holiest pilgrimage site).
Patan, is one of the major cities of Nepal and is best known for its rich cultural heritage, in particular its tradition of arts and crafts. After heritage sightseeing, you will meet your trekking guide for briefing to help for final preparation of the trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

We fly to Nepalgunj which is 1.5 hours journey with scenic sights underneath. At Nepalgunj we will have time in the later afternoon or evening to have a look around the town which is situated on the southern Nepal border with India. Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.

Day 04Fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal (Dolpa and trek to Dunai: 2-3 hrs

Early in the morning, we take a flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal over Himalayan foothills, with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks. We trek for 2 to 3 hours from the Juphal airstrips to reach Dunai village for our overnight stay. Our adventure begins with an hour downhill walk through the village below the airstrip.

Day 05Trek to Tarakot (2,850m): 5-6 hrs.

Our trek today experiences a number of streaks, ups and downs and a tremendous gorge with pine trees and an ingenious path built about seven meter above the Bheri River. At the end, we reach Tarakot which is an old fortress. Overnight stay at Tarakot.

Day 06Trek to Khani Gaon (2,543m): 3-4 hrs.

Our route from here follows the Tarap Chu River upstream. The path leads through the farm terraces and villages of Sahartera winding gradually towards a small settlement of Kola after 3-4 hours of trek. We descend from here to reach our overnight camp stay at Khani Gaon with another 2 hours’ trekking.

Day 07Trek to Tarap Khola (3,450m): 4-5 hrs.

The trek continues walking up the gorge of the Tarap Khola. On the way we are likely to encounter people from Dolpo herding their flocks of sheep and goats to lower pasture for the winter. The gorge also provides unexpected adventure and thrills. At some places, the bridges are either damaged or washed away by the monsoon flood, and we may opt to cross the cold torrent on foot. Overnight stay at camp by the riverside.

Day 08Trek to Yak Kharka (3,800m): 4-5 hrs.

We start our walk pleasantly and with most scenic landscapes and will reach Yak Kharka. We will have lunch in the middle of the way. Overnight stay in a camp at Yak Kharka.

Day 09Trek to Dho Tarap (4,090m): 5-6 hrs.

After a few hours’ walk along the narrow gorge, the path leads us just above tree lines, typical of dry inner Himalayan valleys. Another 3 hours’ walk brings us to the village of Dho Tarap surrounded by an irregular stone wall. Tarap is also inhabited by few Tibetans and mostly Magars. Overnight stay in camp.

Day 10Rest Day at Dho Tarap for acclimatization

As we will go ahead tomorrow gaining altitude, we rest today for acclimatization. During this rest day, we explore the culture and society of the people living in Dho Tarap.

Day 11Trek to Tokyu Gaon (4,200m): 5-6 hrs.

The walk today follows patches of lush verdant grass on both sides of river, which is completely different from other parts of inner Dolpo. The trek on this trail leads to Tarap Chu upstream all the way. After 3-4 hours of trek we reach the village of Tokyu. Tokyu has a monastery belonging to the Chinba sect of Buddhism. We continue further climbing up the rough track for almost another three hours to reach our overnight camp beneath the Numa-La.

Day 12Trek below Numa La Pass (4,665m): 4-5 hrs.

We start with beautiful scenes around but gaining altitudes and feel short breathing. We will have short day. At the high altitude we will reach at the camp for overnight stay.

Day 13Cross Muma La pass (5,190m) and camp at Phedi: 6-7 hrs.

This is one of the long and difficult days. Today we cross the highest pass during this trek where we may feel difficult. We cross the Muma La Pass and descend to get to Phedi for overnight stay in a camp.

Day 14Trek and cross Baga La (5,070m) and camp: 5-6 hrs.

The trek leads to steep climb all the way to the top ridge of Muma La with great views of surrounding landscapes of valley and mountains. After some 3 hours’ walk downhill we will reach Palungtang or farther for the overnight camp, which is just before Baga La or Besi La Pass, depending on the duration of walk and fitness of our bodies.

Day 15Trek to Ringmo (3,600m): 6-7 hrs.

Today’s trek starts with a steep climb to reach the ridge top of Baga La, which offers fantastic views of landscape around. Thereafter, we descend for 2 hours through the pine forest. We now go through alpine shrubs most of the way to Ringmo on the gradual slopes with few ups and downs as we reach our final destination at Ringmo and the crystal serene Lake of Phoksundo. Overnight stay in a tented camp.

Day 16Rest day at Ringmo for acclimatization

The nearby Tibetan Buddhist monastery is well worth a visit, in Ringmo village. A walk past way round the lake is also very enjoyable and relaxing.

Day 17Trek to Pungmo village (3,170m): 4-5 hrs.

After enjoying the campsite and the clear waters of the lake we retrace back down to Sumlo from where we follow the trail north-west up the Pungmo Nala to the small B’on village of Pungmo. Having lunch and sometime to explore around we walk a couple of hours to reach our camp site for overnight stay.

Day 18Trek below Magmara La: 5-6 hrs.

The trail leads up the valley. View of Kangchunne and Kanjirwa peak are very nice along the way. The valley is well forested with Juniper. Further up the valley blue sheep might be seen on the mountain slopes. The trail climbs steadily turning. Overnight stay at a camp below Kangmara Pass.

Day 19Cross the Kangmara La (5,115m): 4-5 hrs.

We start with steep climb to the pass at an altitude of 16,100 ft. Views west towards the Sisne and Patrasi Himal and northwards of Kanjirowa are striking. The trail descends steeply towards the west and a long downward walk will bring us to a small campsite below the peak of Kagmara valley. The river we have been following this afternoon is called Garpung River. Overnight stay in a tented camp.

Day 20Trek to Hurikot village 3,600m): 5-6 hrs.

We first ascend a few steeps then we descent with the Jagdulla Khola down to the Army Check Post. After crossing the Jagdulla Khola, the trail follows well forested valley to the village of Hurikot where we camp tonight.

Day 21Trek to Chaurikot (3,060m): 5-6 hrs.

Today’s trail is a long gradual climb. Views north towards the Kanjiroba Himal are very fine from here. Descending into a dense forest of pine, spruce, fir and oak, our overnight stay camp is set up in a forest cleaning on the riverbank.

Day 22Trek to Ghorte Gompa (3,200m): 5-6 hrs.

Today our trek leads below Barbarey Lekh, with forested area along the way. We reach Ghorte village in late afternoon for our overnight stay in a camp.

Day 23Trek to Gothi Chaur (2,700m): 4-5 hrs.

We follow the Tila stream where the trail runs below the villages of Manigaun and Kurigaun. After the day’s walk we reach Gothi Chaur for our overnight stay in a camp.

Day 24Trek to Jumla (2,370m): 6-7 hrs.

Our last day of trekking begins by slowly and gradually dropping down a really lovely valley from high alpine pastures, through magnificent forests, and eventually into a fertile well farmed valley. It has pretty village named Padmara and the track is not too steep. We follow the same river all the way down to Jumla. This makes a nice circuit and avoids having a repeat part of the outward trek. Upon arriving at Jumla, rest of the afternoon can be spent exploring the busy market town of Jumla.

Day 25Fly from Jumla to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu

30-minute early morning flight will take us to Nepalgunj from Jumla. From there we take a connecting flight to Kathmandu. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 26Leisure day in Kathmandu

It is also spare day in case of bad weather in Jumla. You may have full day today as spare, time to explore Kathmandu and last day shopping. Overnight stay in Kathmandu

Day 27Kathmandu departure or trip extensions by adding optional activities.
